Privacy policy
Effective 29 October 2026
The short version
- There are no accounts, no ads, and no tracking or analytics in the app.
- Everything you save (likes, bookmarks, notes, streak, plans, settings) stays on your phone.
- Only Talk, the optional AI guide, sends anything off your phone: your messages (or voice note) go to our server and on to Google's Gemini API to write the reply.
- Your conversations are not saved, not on our server and not in the app.
This policy covers the Scroll Gita apps for Android and iPhone. "We" means the developer of Scroll Gita, shown as the developer on its Google Play and App Store pages.
What stays on your phone
Your likes, bookmarks, notes, reading position, streak, reading plans, reminder times and settings are stored only on your device. So are the name and email you can type on the Account page in Settings: accounts aren't available yet, so they are never sent anywhere. We can't see any of this.
If you've turned on your phone's own backup (Google or iCloud), that backup may include the app's data. That's handled by Google or Apple under their terms, and we can't access it.
Deleting the app deletes this data.
Talk: what is sent, and why
Talk only sends data when you send a message or a voice note. Each time, the app sends this to our server (a Cloudflare Worker):
- the last few messages of the current conversation (up to 12, yours and Talk's), so the reply follows the conversation;
- the app language (English or Hindi) and your phone's region setting (a country code such as IN or GB), so the reply is in the right language and any help line shown is for your country;
- the topic or verse you picked, if any, and whether the conversation has already shown signs of distress (so the reply stays careful);
- a random ID created when the app is installed. It isn't linked to your name, phone number, Google or Apple account, or any advertising ID. It is used only to apply the daily limits on messages and reports.
The server sends the conversation, the language and region, and the topic to Google's Gemini API, which writes the reply. It also uses Gemini to match your latest messages to relevant verses. The random ID is not sent to Google.
We use Gemini as a paid service. Under Google's terms for paid use of the Gemini API, Google does not use prompts or replies to improve its products, and keeps them only for a limited time to detect abuse. See Google's Gemini API terms and Google's privacy policy.
Voice notes
When you hold the mic button, the app records your voice and streams it over an encrypted connection to our server, which sends it to Gemini to transcribe it and write the reply. The audio is held in memory only for that request. It is never stored on our server, and in the app it is never saved to disk; it's kept in memory only until the reply arrives, so you can retry.
While you speak, the app also shows a live draft of your words using your phone's speech recognition, and sends that draft to our server to start picking verses and to check for signs of crisis.
- iPhone: Apple's speech recognition, on the device when your iPhone supports it. If it doesn't, Apple may process the audio on its servers under Apple's privacy policy.
- Android: the on-device speech recogniser when one is installed. Otherwise your phone's default speech service, asked to work offline where it can; if it can't, that service (often Google) may process the audio under its own terms.
If you turn off speech recognition, voice notes still work, just without the live draft.
What our server keeps
Conversations are not saved on the server. Messages and audio are used to make the reply and then discarded. The only things kept are:
- Daily counters: the random ID with how many messages and reports it sent that day, to enforce the daily limits. Deleted automatically after two days.
- Reported replies: if you tap "Report this reply", we keep that one reply's text, the reason you picked, any note you add, the app language, whether it's Android or iPhone, and the time, for 90 days so we can review it and improve Talk's safety. Nothing else from the conversation is kept: not your messages, not other replies, and not the random ID.
- Technical logs: timings, error codes, sizes and costs of requests, and whether a help card was shown. Never the text of your messages or replies. Our host, Cloudflare, also processes standard request details such as your IP address to deliver the service and may keep them in short-lived logs under Cloudflare's privacy policy.
All traffic between the app and our server is encrypted (HTTPS).
Permissions
- Microphone (and speech recognition on iPhone): only for Talk voice notes, only while you hold the mic button. The app explains why before your phone asks.
- Notifications: for the optional Shloka of the Day reminder. Reminders are scheduled on your phone; we don't run a push-notification server.
- Android only: internet access for Talk, and permission to start after the phone restarts so your reminder is set again.
The app doesn't use your location, contacts, photos, or advertising ID.
Purchases
Paid features aren't on sale yet. When they are, payment will be handled by Google Play or the App Store; we will never see your card details. This policy will be updated before that launches.
Children
Scroll Gita is meant for adults. Because Talk is an AI that discusses personal and emotional topics, the app is not directed at anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect data from children, and we hold nothing that identifies you.
If you're struggling
Talk offers reflection drawn from the Gita. It is not a substitute for professional help. If you're in crisis or thinking about harming yourself or someone else, contact local emergency services or a helpline. Talk shows one for your region when it notices distress, and you can always find one at findahelpline.com.
Your choices and rights
You can use the whole app without Talk, in which case nothing leaves your phone. Because there are no accounts and conversations aren't saved, we hold nothing we can link to you. If you reported a reply and want it removed sooner, email us roughly when you reported it and the reply's first words, and we'll delete it. You can also contact us with any privacy question or request under the law where you live.
Our server runs on Cloudflare's global network and Google's servers may be outside your country; both protect data under their own published terms.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above. For meaningful changes, such as anything new leaving your phone, we'll also say so in the app's release notes and, where it matters, in the app itself before the change applies.
